The Southern California Society for Microscopy and Microanalysis and the Long Beach LAC invite you to attend Microscopy & Microanalysis 2001 for the meeting with an ocean view.

Southern California is known for its beautiful beaches, sunny weather and variety of attractions.  Plan now and come to see for yourself!

Bring the whole family and discover the allure of Long Beach.  The world-class attractions, from a historic ocean liner to a state-of-the-art aquarium, will amaze and entertain you.  Five and one-half miles of sandy coastline offer pure recreational adventures.  The city’s cultural treasures, including the one-of-a-kind Museum of Latin American Art, the new Long Beach Art Museum (housed in a 1912 mansion overlooking the ocean) and a renowned symphony orchestra, are truly captivating.  The energetic nightlife from easy jazz to Polynesian dancers is inspiring.  Shopping and dining experiences are as varied as its people are.

The city’s warm, year-round climate provides the ideal setting for any outdoor activity.  Bike, jog or skate on the expansive bike path that winds along the coastline.  Fish from the many docks along the shore or charter a half-day fishing excursion. Golf at one of three local scenic courses.  Bask in the sun, take a dip in the ocean or get your feet wet with a round of windsurfing, parasailing, catamaraning or snorkeling.  Take surfing lessons and live the California beach experience at the fabled breakers of Huntington Beach.  Or simply relax with a scenic harbor cruise or romantic stroll on the beach.

You will find more adventures downtown, along the waterfront and beyond.  Explore the majestic Queen Mary Get up close and personal with over 10,000 sea creatures at the spectacular Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.  Slip away for a romantic gondola ride through the charming canals of Naples Island.

Long Beach is within an easy half-hour to one and one-half hour drive or boat-ride to several major attractions.  Cruise to the famous Santa Catalina Island.  Drive to Orange County’s Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm, Los Angeles’ Zoo and  Universal Studios Hollywood, or San Diego’s Sea World and world-famous San Diego Zoo and Animal Park.  Attend a Dodger’s or Angel’s baseball game.  Visit the expansive Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the fabulous Getty Museum, or the extraordinary Museum of Tolerance.

Of course, M&M 2001 is not just about museums and attractions.  It is primarily about science.  The new convention center is centrally located in the beachfront area of the city and is within 2 blocks walk of most conference hotels.  Continue surfing this website to see the fantastic scientific program that has been planned for you and...

Come to Long Beach for outstanding science with a California attitude!
